In the Vehicle Rifle Tactics Class, the Instructor Choice Drill is a dynamic exercise that pushes students to apply tactical skills under pressure. Starting from the driver’s seat, students respond to the instructor's command to exit the vehicle, retrieve their rifle from the backseat, and engage multiple targets while moving between two vehicles and using various barricades for cover. The instructor continuously adjusts the drill, prompting students to fire with both hands, gun hand only, or support hand only, enhancing their adaptability and reinforcing essential shooting techniques for real-world scenarios. This hands-on drill sharpens decision-making and encourages versatility in high-stress, active threat situations. Registration is open for the June 2025 classes.
In Defensive Handgun 1.0, we take the law review to a new level by integrating interactive threat-response training. During this portion, students engage with target/threat slides using SIRT Training Pistols, simulating real-world scenarios where quick reaction and accuracy matter. Instructors guide students to apply and reinforce foundational skills, ensuring each student feels confident and prepared. By incorporating their real, safe firearms during the presentation, we’ve seen marked improvement in range performance—students learn to respond more intuitively and effectively. This exercise is just one way we build muscle memory and skill, empowering students to make quick, informed decisions.

Testimonials
I attended my first SRT Concepts class in August of last year as a new gun owner. I had recently purchased a pistol and an AR and so I went looking for a firearms training company to help me build skills focused on self defense. I enrolled in the first available SRT course, Strategic Movement in Response to an Active Threat. Since the first class, I have taken 8 other new classes with SRT and repeated 3 of the 9. The next upcoming class is Cold Weather Handgun which will be new for me.
The Strategic Movement class was awesome and eye opening! Before attending the class I tried to reason thru and role play how I might respond to a nighttime home invasion scenario; an active threat. I could only come up with an overly simplistic response and I remember that there wasn’t much to my plan after the act of grabbing the loaded pistol.
After taking Strategic Movement, I understood that shelter in place may be the best option depending on the circumstances. I learned what constitutes a good shelter in place plan like how to properly barricade a door and strategies that help you communicate with 911 emergency. The core of the class contained tactical skills so that if I decided not to shelter in place, but instead to pursue the intruder, that I was knowledgeable on how to move undetected, how to use the pistol light to my advantage, and tactics for traversing a hallway, navigating a stair case, and room clearing.
The pistol and rifle classes taught me how to deliver accurate shots, to shoot with either hand since that is necessary and often a good tactical choice, and how and when to use available cover. In the Low Light Handgun class I learned skills to effectively use my pistol light to create an uneven playing field for an intruder whereby you get the upper hand in the engagement. The Vehicle class was the best at showing me what constitutes good cover and where you want to position yourself if there is gunfire occurring on or near vehicles. The Interactive Use of Force class made it painfully clear to me that you have to manage your stress level, and at the same time, think tactically during a high stress event so that you can confidently manage the interaction with a bad guy and neutralize the threat!
I think that taking all the available SRT courses has allowed me to build a solid personal defense strategy that is proactive. I feel like I’m prepared to respond to home invasions or an active shooter events should that happen. But, I know to a certainty that these skills require continual training and sufficient practice to master! After just 3 or so hours in that first Strategic Movement class it was clear to me that the skill set I was attempting to learn would require repetition of the class. I routinely see many of the same faces in each class I attend so I am sure I am not alone in thinking that you have to continually train and practice.
While on the range, Peter and his Team are always actively coaching shooters who are performing shooting drills on the firing line. They pay attention to all of the details that are involved in the particular shooting sequence to ensure that you come away understanding proper form when shooting and correct technique when executing tactical movements. During the Strategic Movement and Interactive Use of Force classes, which are taught in a special building, Peter and his Team are coaching you throughout each training scenario, helping you to get the clearest understanding of the skills and the details of the techniques being taught. You couldn’t ask for more experienced, knowledgable, engaged, and dedicated professionals than the folks at SRT Concepts!
I totally recommend SRT Concepts to everyone who wants to improve proficiency with their firearms and build tactical skills! I believe we are blessed that SRT Concepts is right here in Southern Maine, close to home, with expert, personable, caring instructors who have a solid training commitment!

I’ve trained a few times with SRT Concepts in the past 6 months and have walked away feeling positive about the information being taught. Peter and his instructor cadre are extremely knowledgeable and make sure to show multiple ways of performing different tactics so all learners can choose what works best for them. I look forward to signing up for the next level 2.0 course next month and know I won’t be disappointed. R.M.

"16 classes, 120 hours. That's how much time I have spent training with SRT Concepts since late 2017. Peter is a dedicated and patient instructor, and has the experience and flexibility to teach across a wide variety of skills levels within a single class and ensure that everybody gets something out of their time. Whether you're looking for a class to your concealed permit, or want to run around junker cars with rifles and Hawaiian shirts, SRT Concepts has a broad spectrum of classes offered and taught by folks who are both knowledgeable and safe. I highly recommend them." M. P.

"I had the opportunity to participate in "Strategic Movement for the Home" course in Brunswick with Peter Joyce of SRT Concepts, LLC. In the class, we learned how to react to intruders in our homes. We discussed risk assessment, tactical considerations, weapon management, and the use of light as well as some hands on practices these skills and tactics. It is one thing to learn about this stuff; it is another to physically try to do the skill with constructive feedback. I learned how to disarm someone close up as well as methods for weapon retention (AKA, keeping the "bad guy" from taking my gun away from me). I learned how to clear a room. How to use light effectively and the best setup. Am I an expert? NO, not even close. But I now have more knowledge to practice these new skills on my own. I have home work to do a better job of risk assessment in my home. The class was run in a large facility with various rooms to use to practice clearing rooms/areas alone and with a partner. If you get a chance to take a class with Peter, I highly recommend it. He is very knowledgable and confident without a lot of ego. He has excellent communication skills and did a great job of checking for understanding and comfort. I found him to be patient and easy going while still vigilant on participant's safety and limitations. It was a safe and pleasant learning experience. Thank you Peter." N.C.

When choosing an instructor, I specifically chose SRT Concepts because of the law enforcement and real-world tactical experience that Peter and his associates provide. They have actually experienced and lived through the scenarios that they teach, so you have in-person training from SWAT law enforcement. Who gets that? This is priceless! Peter offers some level of tactical insight in even the most entry-level class, and you learn how to be safe while moving and interacting, and not just while standing in one place. It's worth it to repeat the same class multiple times as well, because you will experience and master techniques differently each time. The confidence that Peter's classes impart is life-changing (especially for women), because not only do your skills improve, but you get a higher level of insight that is safe and smart. Life moves fast, and doesn't stand still. Choose your instructor accordingly! H.C

"Having instructors with life experiences is great, having instructors who have lived it and can communicate/teach it effectively - that's the real value! I felt both you and Ted were able to clearly and concisely convey both knowledge and skill that made actual and immediate differences. Thanks again." B.S.
