Do you offer Maine Conceal Weapon Permit training classes?
Yes, our Defensive Handgun 1.0 course not only meets but exceeds the requirements for Maine’s Concealed Handgun Permit. We hold a high standard because we believe responsible gun ownership goes beyond the basics. In this class, you’ll gain hands-on experience with your own handgun, learning critical skills under the guidance of experienced instructors. You’ll be accountable for every round fired, gaining the confidence and knowledge you need to carry safely and responsibly. Join us to ensure you're prepared and trained to carry with confidence.
Why should I train with your company?
At SRT Concepts, our instructors are seasoned professionals—active or retired law enforcement officers with extensive SWAT experience. Our team has real-world experience and a comprehensive understanding of the criminal justice system and use-of-force laws. Will I be the only woman in the class? No. Female students account for 20% to 40% of every class.
How big are the classes? I cap my classes at 10 students so each student receives quality training and feedback. Classes have a maximum ratio of one instructor for every five students. All classes are highly supervised.
What is the minimum age requirement? A parent or guardian is required to take the class along with a child under the age of 18.
What do I need to bring to the range with me? Please view the equipment needed list of your selected class. A hat and sunblock is recommended during warm weather. If you have sunglasses or prescription glasses, bring them. If you have ear protection, bring it. You should bring a lunch and fluids. The lunch break is 30 minutes. Dress for outdoor range conditions. Check equipment list for the class you’re enrolled in.
When I know what classes I want to take, what do I do? When you’re ready to register for a class, click on the "Enroll" link for the class you would like to take. When filling out the form you will be given the option to either pay online or mail in your payment. Upon receipt of payment, we will e-mail you confirming your attendance, supply details needed for class, and provide directions to the range. Please make sure when mailing payment that your deposit/pre-payment arrives to us 3 days prior to your scheduled class. Checks can be mailed to SRT Concepts LLC at . List the class and date of the class on the memo line of check.
What happens if I sign up for a class, pay for the class, but can't make it?
You must contact us 24 hours before the class if you can't make it and we will apply your payment to a class that suits your schedule. We will not take your money without providing training to you.
What happens if it's raining the day of the class?
The ranges are outdoors. Heavy rain may cancel class due to unsafe conditions on the road or the range. Unless notified the night before, classes will be held as scheduled.
What kind of holster should I bring?
Use the holster you will carry your concealed handgun in to allow proper training with your gear. No shoulder holsters or cross-draw holsters allowed. Thigh holsters or chest rigs can be worn in Tactical Rifle classes. Wear a sturdy belt to support the handgun and magazine pouches. Contact us if you any questions.
Do I need to bring my own weapon?
We have a limited number of demo handguns and gear that you can use for the day for an additional fee. Anyone wishing to purchase a handgun prior to class should visit one of the local gun stores. Staff at those stores should assess your needs and fit a gun to your hand.
How long is each class?
The majority of classes are 7 hours.
Do you have ammo for sale?
At this time we do not sell ammo.
Can I bring more than one gun?
Yes. You can switch to another handgun as long as you have all the required gear.
What types of guns and calibers are appropriate for your classes?
Small caliber handguns such as: .22, .25, .32 are not allowed in the class. The small frame creates a hazard to the user. .380 pistols are allowed only if the slide can be locked to the rear by a slide catch lever. Common calibers such as: .38, 9mm, 357 sig, .40 and .45 are all allowed.
Rifle Calibers are 5.56/223, 300 BLK, 7.62X39. Rifle platforms can be AR-15, Mini14, M1, HK and AK’s. Recommend a rifle which will take high capacity magazines. No green tips or any rounds with a velocity of over 3000 ft/sec. Contact us if you have questions
Do you offer private training?
Yes. SRT Concept instructors provide instruction on handgun, rifle and shotgun or a combined class involving multiple weapon systems. Training sites include area gun ranges, privately owned safe shooting areas and in your home for dry fire exercises. Private classes are one on one, couples, families or small groups. Rates are $75 an hour for one person, $100 for 2. Minimum of 2 hours.
I have never shot a handgun before, will that be a problem?
No, Defensive Handgun 1.0 is designed for the new shooter and for experienced shooters that want to revisit the basics.
